Manchester United vs Chelsea

game over! Chelsea 2-3 Man Utd  WOW

PREVIEW

The second part of the ‘Super Sunday’ sees Chelsea’s first real test. Don’t get me wrong the game last week against Spurs was a humdinger and Chelsea showed class and spirit but Spurs were missing Dembele and Bale two very important weapons in the White Hart Lane artillery.
As well as that they scraped through against an Arsenal team that are already crumbling so this is really the first major test for Di Matteo and no doubt he will want a win after being shown up in the Ukraine in midweek.
Considering it is at the Bridge you would say that the pendulum of luck would go with the home side but right Manchester United off at your peril. Both teams are leaking goals at the back, especially the away side, so this one has the potential for a glut of goals and after one of the misses of the century by Torres in this fixture at Old Trafford last season the Spaniard will want to impact the score sheet on Sunday afternoon.
Stats-wise Chelsea have a good record against the bigger teams at Stamford Bridge with 7 wins out of the last 10 games and Sir Alex has won on only 6 trips to Chelsea out of 25. I’m sure that many United players will want that to be changed including one Rio Ferdinand. Much has been said of the ex-England skipper after he didn’t wear ‘that’ t-shirt last weekend but after releasing a statement with his brother Anton saying they felt let down by both the PFA and FA but are willing to work with them, he is at least trying to solve the problem whereas Jason Roberts just looks to be stirring up trouble.
Yes Jason we all know you aren’t supporting the kick it out campaign but instead of making the issue about what you’re doing why not actually try and help stop racism in football?
Speaking of which, Rio will want to make his presence felt and help stop the amount of goals Man United keep conceding but with the likes of Torres, Oscar, Hazard and the outstanding Mata he won’t be able to do it alone. Smalling is back in training but I doubt will be risked for a game as big as this so the, ahem ,’dependable’ Jonny Evans will no doubt be partnering Rio in defence. Better than Carrick I suppose.
For me this game will go one of two ways; Chelsea’s attacking trio will be matched goal for goal by the attacking might of Van Persie, Rooney and Wellbeck and this will be an absolute blockbuster of a game that will have Martin Tyler speaking in superlatives till next Saturday or Fergie will decide to flood the midfield in order to stop the magic of Chelsea’s never ending talent and it will be dirty and won by a set piece or a moment of brilliance.
Who will win is very tough to predict but considering that United have a bad record defensively at the moment and they have a poor record at Stamford Bridge I’ll go with Chelsea to win. Either way I will be watching and I suggest you do the same.
