A-League All Stars vs Manchester United

United head into this weekend’s clash with the A-League All Stars on the back of a slender defeat to a Singha All Star XI in Bangkok, the first match of this summer’s Tour 2013 presented by Aon. And although that match was closely contested, the extreme heat and humidity made playing conditions extremely difficult and, in the end, Terratep Winothai’s goal proved decisive. Thankfully, temperatures in Sydney are much cooler and the Reds will hope to impress.

It is always difficult to predict starting XI’s for pre-season outings, but fans can expect Robin van Persie and David De Gea to feature in some capacity after both joined the touring party earlier this week. Adnan Januzaj might retain his place after impressing last week, while Wilfried Zaha could start following his equally noteworthy performance as a second half substitute.

Melbourne Victory manager Ange Postecoglou will take charge of the All-Stars on Saturday and the Australian coach insists he won’t deploy a defender to man-mark RvP. “We won't be man-marking anyone,” he said. “I'll be more interested on what we do when we've got the ball. There wouldn't be much point (because) there'd be 10 other blokes to look after as well.”

Manchester United play their second preseason friendly match this Saturday in a clash with the A-League All Stars.

The Sydney fixture will feature the best players from the Australia and New Zealand national league.

David Moyes' side were underwhelming in their 1-0 loss to the Singha All Stars in Bangkok last weekend, and the Scotsman will be hoping for a far improved performance in only his second game on the sidelines. Moyes will be grateful to welcome stars Robin van Persie and David de Gea back to the fold. Both were two of the most impressive United players last term and have already linked up with the squad in Sydney.

In terms of team news, fans of the Red Devils will be keeping a close eye out for young talents Wilfried Zaha and Adnan Januzaj.

Having signed from Crystal Palace, the former is a pacey winger with a bag of tricks in his arsenal. The latter is an 18-year-old Belgian who has yet to make his official first team debut.
