Manchester United play their final pre-season tour match tomorrow night in Stockholm, Sweden against AIK Fotboll. Former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel thinks it will be a tough match for the Red Devils, who will play one more match this week against Sevilla for Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial ahead of the FA Community Shield against Wigan Athletic at Wembley on Sunday.
United manager David Moyes has taken a
pretty strong side over to Sweden with chances for young players Bebe
and Angelo Henriquez, who I am looking forward to seeing. United were
dealt with an injury blow to want away striker Wayne Rooney who damaged
his shoulder in the behind-closed-doors match at the clubs AON Training
Complex on Saturday. This seems pretty strange as rumours suggest that
the England striker refused to travel, rather than the injury Moyes
confirmed earlier today. Personally I think Rooney has played his last
match for the club, but we will see what happens.
It will be good to see Shinji Kagawa in
the hole behind Robin van Persie tomorrow evening, but I don’t for one
minute think we will see that. It will also be good to see Angelo
Henriquez in action among members of the first team. He has been linked
with a loan move to Spain this coming season, but I guess Moyes would
want to cast his eye over the player before he confirms anything as
should Rooney leave, he could hold a position in the first team,
providing Rooney was not replaced with a like for like player.
One player I am unhappy about is Javier
Hernandez, who has not travelled with the squad despite playing in the
friendly match against Real Betis on Saturday at Carrington. As far as
I know he is not injured, I just hope he is being rested for Friday and
nothing else is planned for him. I would really hate to see him leave
the club, as there have been rumours but as far as I know they are pie
in the sky.
Hopefully United will be ready for the
opposition, they really need to be as they have a tough start to the
season a week on Saturday with an away trip to the Liberty Stadium,
where United have played twice, but have never been beaten. Swansea has
strengthened their squad considerably this summer, so it could be a
lesson learned for the Red Devils.
