The IZOD IndyCar Series will finally kick things off for the 2013 with the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Last year’s defending race champion Helio Castroneves looks to start off the season by defending that win.
Castroneves is hungry for victory, but he’s going to have to fight hard against last year’s defending driver’s champion, Ryan Hunter-Raey. Hunter-Raey’s best finish at St. Petersburg is a second place finish back in 2009 for Vision Racing. Last season he finished third with his Andretti Autosport team.
Will Power was fast all weekend last year. He sat on the pole and set the fastest lap during the race last year. However, Castroneves and Team Penske had the strategy to win while his teammate, Power, had to settle for a seventh place finish.
Ana Beatriz will be making her second start at the St. Petersburg circuit. She finished fourteenth in her first and only other start at the circuit. Look for her to improve on that finish with power from Dale Coyne Racing.
