Boston Bruins vs Winnipeg Jets
It wasn’t the type of result that the Bruins were looking for but at least they’re going to have a lot of motivation if they happen to see the Pittsburgh Penguins in the playoffs this year. Tyler Seguin scored his 10th goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1 in the opening period but the Bruins allowed a goal in the final minute of the period and never were able to even things the rest of the way. They outshot the Penguins 32-18 for the game, including 12-3 in the third period, but were shut down by backup goalie Tomas Vokoun. Tuukka Rask made 16 saves on 18 shots in the 2-1 loss and saw his record drop to 14-3-3 on the year. These couple of losses to the Penguins this week have been frustrating for the Bruins but it’s not like they can’t beat them. They’ve had a couple of issues in these games but nothing that says they’re going to get run out of the building by the Penguins if they meet them in the post season. At 19-5-3 on the season it’s really just a minor problem for the Bruins at this point. They’ll get a chance to bounce back when they host a desperate Winnipeg Jets club that’s working their tail off to try and get into the playoffs this season. After a three game winning streak the Jets really laid an egg on Sunday night when they traveled to Ottawa to take on the Senators though. They were outshot 19-6 in the opening period and trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes of play and never bounced back. Ondrej Pavelec did everything he could to keep the Jets in this one and Zach Bogosian’s second goal of the season early in the third period gave them some life. The Jets could never tie it up however and Ottawa scored twice more as they sent Winnipeg to a 4-1 defeat. Pavelec finished the game with 38 saves on 42 shots.
The Under is 5-1 the last six meetings in Winnipeg and 9-3 the last 12 meetings overall. Boston is 17-5 the last 22 meetings but just 1-4 their last five trips to Winnipeg. The home team is 16-5 the last 21 overall.
