Washington Wizards vs New York Knicks
The red-hot Knicks will be looking for their 13th straight win tonight after taking down the Thunder by 125-120 on Sunday. Once again, Carmelo Anthony led the way with a monster night of 36 points and 12 rebounds (nine offensives) while JR Smith had 22 points off the bench, including two clutch baskets down the stretch as the Knicks won their 12th consecutive. In some ways you could say that the Knicks were lucky to win because they allowed the Thunder to shoot 57.7 percent from the field, but they made up for it with 15 threes, 19 offensive rebounds and just six turnovers in an absolute shootout of a game. With the win, New York improves to 50-26 on the season and 2 1/2 games clear of the third-placed Indiana with just six games left to play.
Meanwhile, the Wizards have won three of their last five but are coming off a 107-96 loss against the Celtics. John Wall had 16 points and 10 assists while AJ Price had 15 points off the bench, but the Celtics just ambushed them in the third quarter and outscored them by 31-19 which basically put the game to bed heading into the fourth quarter. In their defense, the Wizards did just play the Pacers the night before and actually won by 104-85 behind 37 points from Wall.
In ATS trends, the Wizards are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a loss and 0-5 ATS in their last five road games, while the Knicks are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games against Eastern Conference opponents and 17-5 ATS in their last 22 games overall.
Head to head, the Wizards are 9-23 ATS in the last 32 meetings overall and 3-13 ATS in the last 16 meetings in New York.
My initial prediction was to take the Wizards with the points in this one because they've actually been playing (and covering) a lot better than you would think, but on second thought, I can't go past a ridiculously hot Knicks team at home. I'm going with Melo again tonight.
